Scholarships That Turn Ambition into Opportunity
Empowering Moore County’s brightest students to reach their potential through life-changing scholarships.
About Us
Our Purpose
To award college scholarships to deserving graduates of Moore County, NC high schools and to raise proceeds sufficient to fund those scholarships.
Our Charter
The Tin Whistles Scholarship Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit sponsored by The Tin Whistles, Inc. and dedicated to charitable giving. The Foundation is governed by a Board of 12 trustees and 3 ex officio members—all proud members of The Tin Whistles.
Our Legacy of Achievement
For more than four decades, The Tin Whistles Scholarship Foundation (TWSF) has grown from a small, local initiative into a legacy defined by expanding opportunity, sustained growth and long-term impact for Moore County students. What began in 1979 with just two scholarships has grown into a wide range of pathways that support students pursuing university degrees, community college programs and nursing careers.
Since that first year, the Foundation has supported more than 180 scholars and invested over $2.3 million in their college education—an enduring commitment that continues to strengthen year after year. As the program has grown, so has its alumni community. Today, TWSF Scholars are thriving across fields such as medicine, law, law enforcement, educations, engineering, management, accounting, finance and public services, demonstrating the profound and lasting impact of investing in young people.
Milestones in Scholarship Growth
1979 – The Foundation awards its first two 4‑year scholarships.
2000 – The program doubles in size, expanding to four 4‑year scholarships.
2024 – Growth accelerates with six 4‑year scholarships and three 3‑year nursing scholarships at Sandhills Community College.

“In May 2024, I graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Neuroscience and a minor in Psychology from High Point University (HPU). At HPU, I contributed to five research projects under Dr. Verónica Segarra and Dr. Kristen Ackerman, and was selected for the competitive Undergraduate Research Program at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, where I worked under Dr. Helen Hou.
I’m excited to announce that…”

“Over the summer I had the great opportunity to partake in an internship at Duke Energy! While there I learned many aspects of the business from designing distribution electrical systems to coordinating with customers and field crews.
Last fall I was excited to return to UNC Charlotte and am pleased to share that my junior year of studying Mechanical Engineering is going well. I was selected to be a part of a leadership group focused on supporting the Charlotte community and volunteer with my university’s engineering department to promote higher education.
I am also honored to…”

“My first semester at NC State has been an amazing experience. I’ve been able to meet so many new friends and build great connections across campus.
One of the biggest highlights for me was officially settling on Mechanical Engineering as my major. I’ve stayed very busy within different communities on campus that have helped me through my decisions, specifically through my involvement with SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) and the WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) program.
I am currently…”

“I wanted to thank all the Tin Whistles for putting on an amazing Christmas party as well as the hosts for having us! I also wanted to give a bit of an update as I haven’t done so since last year.
This year has been incredible with so many different opportunities and clubs I’ve been blessed to be a part of. Your financial support has allowed me time to invest in my passions new and old without a heavy financial burden weighing me down.
I now serve as…”

“I was injured with a stress fracture this semester and so I was unable to compete or train for the cross country team. On the bright side I advanced my coursework towards completion of a Master’s degree so I will graduate with a double major in Computer Science and Applied Mathematics and a Master’s in Computer Science. It was my strongest academic semester in college even though it was my most difficult, having taken six graduate computer science courses at once.
I will also be working…”
