2026 Annual Letter
An Annual Message from Chairman Joe McCullough
January 25, 2026
Each year, the Tin Whistles Scholarship Foundation renews its commitment to helping high-achieving students in Moore County turn their educational aspirations into reality. What began as a modest effort has grown into a vibrant tradition—one that reflects the generosity of our supporters, the dedication of our Trustees, and the extraordinary promise of the young people we serve.
Since awarding its first two scholarships in 1979, the Foundation has grown into a powerful force for opportunity—raising more than $2.3 million and supporting 174 remarkable students on their path to higher education. Today, we proudly award six four‑year college scholarships and three nursing scholarships each year, expanding our reach and deepening our impact.
Our newsletters capture only a glimpse of what our Scholars achieve. Their determination, curiosity, and drive to serve others remind us why this work matters. They turn possibility into progress, and their accomplishments inspire us to aim even higher.
This spring, a dedicated committee will begin the meaningful task of selecting the Class of 2026. It is both an honor and a challenge, as so many outstanding students apply and only a limited number of scholarships can be awarded. Still, each year reaffirms the transformative power of investing in young people.
As I step into the role of Chairman, I do so with deep gratitude for the leaders who have guided the Foundation to this moment. We extend heartfelt thanks to Chairman Mark Boynton and Vice Chairman Terry Davis for their many years of distinguished service, and to Tony Rothwell for his six years of thoughtful stewardship as editor of Scholar Connections. We are pleased to welcome Mark Manuel into that role as we continue to strengthen our connection to Scholars and supporters.
I look forward to serving on the Board—learning more about our Scholars, celebrating your achievements, and meeting many of you in the years ahead. The future of this Foundation is bright, and it is a privilege to help carry its mission forward.

Joe McCullough
